Jute mills crisis not a result of higher prices, says Minister Siraj

Shahjahan Siraj, Textile and Jute Minister informed that higher price of raw jute was in no way affecting the running of jute mills but the financial liquidity with the mills or not purchasing jute at the right time.
When prices of raw jute rises in the domestic market, the price of jute products automatically increase in the international market, explained Siraj.
Currently, 15 of the 22 nationalised jute mills have shut down, said Ministry Officials.
Despite some problems for the producers, jute growers earned right prices of their products for the last two seasons, he added.
Siraj said the government has also taken steps to gain self reliance in jute seeds production within the next five years.
