  • Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases LLP (ALKTG) will invest €70 million (~$82 million) to build two high-purity, energy-efficient nitrogen production units under a long-term agreement with Silleno LLP in Kazakhstan.
  • The facilities will supply nitrogen and compressed dry air to Silleno's polyethylene plant from end-2028, supporting the Karabatan basin's development as a major petrochemical hub.
Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases LLP (ALKTG) has signed a new long-term agreement with Silleno LLP, a chemical manufacturing leader, for the supply of nitrogen and compressed dry air to its future polyethylene plant. The Air Liquide Group has been present in Kazakhstan since 2016. This new investment in the country through ALKTG amounts to 70 million euros (~$82 million). It will support Silleno’s key industrial project aiming to transform the Karabatan basin in Atyrau, into a world-class petrochemical hub. This agreement marks a significant scaling up of Air Liquide’s presence in the region.

Under the agreement signed with Silleno, ALKTG will build, own and operate 2 state-of-the-art, high-purity and energy-efficient nitrogen production units. This global infrastructure will rank among the largest industrial gas facilities in the Central Asian region. The units’ commissioning and initial supply delivery are aligned with the Silleno plant’s schedule, targeted for the end of 2028.

The new facility will be located within the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark (NIPT) Special Economic Zone, near ALKTG’s existing ASU which currently supplies nitrogen to Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI). Building upon ALKTG’s first investment in the Karabatan basin in 2019, this new investment further strengthens our joint venture’s industrial footprint and synergies in the basin.

Émilie Mouren-Renouard, member of Air Liquide’s Executive Committee, notably in charge of supervising operations in Central Asia, stated: “This major agreement with Silleno LLP marks a new milestone in our long-term presence in Kazakhstan. We are proud to strengthen our strategic alliance with KazMunayGas - our long-standing partner in the country and a key stakeholder in the Silleno project - to support the development of the country's petrochemical sector. This investment perfectly illustrates our strategy to combine technological excellence with high regional impact”.
