Poor demand pulls down European ethylene prices last week

In the last week ending Sept 26, ethylene prices slipped down in Europe and US as compared to the previous week.

Prices went down in Europe due to poor demand trends in the region and sluggish demand for downstream products.

Ample product availability and lower upstream energy prices also supported the price decline.

In the European international market, average prices went down by US$ 30/ton or 2.61 percent to US$ 1120/ton last week, from average prices of US$ 1150/ton in its previous week.

However, in the European domestic market ethylene prices remained stable at € 910/ton.

Meanwhile, initial contract prices for October were settled at € 1150/ton (FD North-West Europe), unchanged as compared to the September level.

Last week in the US market, average ethylene prices too fell by 2 cents/pound or 2.7 percent to 72.00 cents/pound from 74 cents/pound in its previous week.
