Japan's ethylene output dips in Oct'14

The production of ethylene in Japan declined by 4.5 percent to 553,200 tonnes in October 2014, compared to production of 579,200 tonnes in the same month of previous year, according to the data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
 
However, ethylene production increased by 12.4 percent in October 2014 over output of 492,100 tonnes in September 2014, the data showed.
 
During the month under discussion, 2 naphtha crackers were shut, same as the number of crackers shut in September 2014, but one more than the number of crackers shut in October 2013.
 
Ethylene is made from naphtha, is used as a raw material in polyester value chain, among others. (RKS)
