  • The Madras High Court has temporarily halted the exemption of the quality control order for polyester staple fibre, with a detailed hearing scheduled for October 31.
  • This decision follows a review petition by the Association of Synthetic Fibre Industry (ASFI) challenging a previous order that granted a ***-month exemption to Sree Kaderi Ambal Mills.

The Association of Synthetic Fibre Industry (ASFI) has filed a review petition challenging the previous order issued by a single judge bench of the same court. Sree Kaderi Ambal Mills, a Madurai-based yarn manufacturing company, had requested the court for a six-month exemption from the mandatory QCO on PSF imports from foreign suppliers. The court had initially granted a three-month exemption, which ASFI contested.

Following the opening arguments, the higher bench of the high court has suspended the exemption until October **. During this time, the court will thoroughly examine the matter. The court has also summoned the ministries of textile, and chemical & fertilizers and Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) which played a role in this issue.
