Tamil Nadu 1st Indian state to launch PM MITRA mega textile park

  • India's Tamil Nadu has become the first state to launch a mega textile park as part of the government's PM MITRA initiative. Eleven companies have signed agreements to set up units in the ****-acre park, with a total investment of ₹******** crore. Tamil Nadu will invest ₹******** crore in the park, which will create employment for about * lakh people.

According to an official communication, the mega textile park is set to be built on a *,***-acre site in E Kumaralingapuram in Virudhunagar district, which is close to the Chennai-Madurai-Kanyakumari national highway (NH-**). It is well connected to Thoothukudi sea port and Madurai airport. The proposed project site is owned by the State Industries Promotion Corporation (SIPCOT). 

Giving a big boost to the textile sector, the PM MITRA parks collectively would create huge employment opportunities for an estimated ** lakh people, attracting about &#****;**,*** crore investment, Indian textile minister Piyush Goyal said at the launch ceremony in Chennai.
