Jacqueline Godwin has discovered a new exhibition at the House of Culture and is determined to show complex techniques of weaving fabric of Belizean society.

This skill of sewing now seems to be a fading talent.

Ritamae Hyde, Exhibition Coordinator, H.O.C. says, “I know that whenever I would look at a Mennonite embroidery or a Maya embroidery I would say it is beautiful, that's a given.”

“But there is more beyond beauty, its actually representative of something more significant,” he adds.

According to Jacqueline Godwin, “Motiffs and Meanings in Maya and Mennonite Embroidery” is the latest exhibition hosted by the National Institute of Culture and History at the Belize City House of Culture.

According to the Exhibition Manager Ritamae Hyde the exhibit is about more than artistic abilities as every stitch symbolizes an intricate expression of identities.

”To look at it from the cultural viewpoint, these symbols are all agent of uniqueness a declaration of a cultural identity,” Ritamae Hyde explains.

The display will run for three months and entry is free to the public.
