At Pitti Uomo in Florence last week the leading menswear garment fair, highlighted wools continued dominance in the menswear garment ranges for the coming Autumn/Winter season.

Licensee exhibitors were reporting positive results in that the show was busy with all the main buyers from Asia, America, Eastern Europe and the Arabic countries showing positive interests in the new wool collections presented by 650 firms representing in total over 800 brands.

Key Highlights:
Wool was the dominating fibre for suits, jackets, coats and knitwear. The overall garment styling was a strong trend towards a 'City Casual' look using fancy design fabrics, new colour mixes and finishing techniques.

A revival for wool trousers was showcased in the new city casual styles with the clear-cut superfine fabrics and styling disappearing. The clear-cut superfine worsted suits have disappeared for this winter season, replaced with a new modern approach to classic menswear tailoring emphasising cities like Naples and London.

Cornelini presented a 'euphoria' in wool and cashmere in pastel winter colours off-white, silver grey and light camel, showing silver grey Pure New Wool flannel 5-pocket jeans-style trousers, combined with wool flannel shirts, un-constructed shirt jackets and slightly bulky extrafine Merino knitwear.

Cantarelli showed un-constructed light coloured jackets in Donegal and Herringbone which had a look of wool but were in fact an innovation in 100% cotton that had the appearance and handle of wool as other fibres try to 'look and feel' like wool.
