The Kingpins Hong Kong Show, an invitation-only textile, apparel and manufacturing sourcing trade show featuring 25 leading denim and jeans accessory suppliers from seven countries, was held in August.

The show, which this season moved to the larger and more central InnoCentre venue in Kowloon, enjoyed strong traffic, despite being cut short by a typhoon. In total, approximately 271 attendees from 103 companies shopped the show floor for the Fall/Winter 2014 season.

Attending brands ranged from Givenchy and Burberry to Gap, Levi’s, DKNY, American Eagle Outfitters, Target, S.Oliver and Ralph Lauren.

Three main trends emerged on the Kingpins Hong Kong show floor:
Denim for F/W 2014 will continue to dig down into its deep blue American roots. The trend leans heavily toward true indigo hues, classic silhouettes, natural-looking wear patterns and fabrications ranging from classic raw denim to soft, buttery textures.

Brands looking for a sense of luxury for the F/W 2014 gravitated toward textured denim. Mills offered jacquards, nubby weaves, embroidery, dobby weaves and all manner of techniques. Womenswear brands opted for classic florals and organic-feeling patterns while menswear brands opted for textures that recalled checkerboard and plaid patterns.

The all-over print trend continues into F/W 2014. Mills offered prints ranging from masculine camouflage to uber feminine florals, spots, natural elements such as leaves and insects, animal prints and even art-inspired prints. Colors ranged from shades of indigo to saturated tones of pink, green, purple, black and white.

Some of this season’s highlights include:

Invista showcased innovative denim fabrics made using Lycra.

Certified Fibermax Cotton debuted E3, its new sustainable cotton program. E3 is a transparent, environmentally responsible, economically viable, and socially equitable program that provides stringent, third-party verified guidelines for farmers in the United States who grow Certified FiberMax or authentic Stoneville cotton.

Cone reported that their SGene stretch products continue to be one of the most popular fabric categories. The yarn core contains a spandex component to allow the fabric to stretch + conform to the body and a polyester component to control the recovery + maintain the shape of the garment. Our most popular SGene stretch is a pure indigo quality with a subtle slub character, which can be easily handled and provides a wide range of wash looks.
