Kelly Bloom at the Arts & Culture Fashion Seminar
SA Fashion Week is going to organize a The SAFW Arts and Culture Fashion Seminar during 28 July to 31 July 2005.
Successful entrepreneur Kelly Bloom will delve into the process of elevating a product to a level of luxury necessary for export: from understanding the history of the handbag as an accessory to working with craftspeople and local resources to designing and merchandising a collection.
Kelly is going to share her pearls of wisdom with delegates on Thursday 28 July at the Arts & Culture Fashion Seminar at SA Fashion Week.
Kelly Bloom's love affair with handbags began on the streets of New York where she lived and worked for 10 years. After Graduating from UCT (Bachelor of Business Science, Marketing) in 1992, she took off to see the world and landed up in New York.
There she worked in fashion for 5 years, and in 1999, after a 6 month soul searching trip through India and South East Asia, came back to New York, and started Bloom Handbags.
Kelly has been featured in International publications such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Marie Claire, and her bags have been sold in the best luxury stores worldwide including Paris, New York, Japan, and Australia. In South Africa she has been featured on Top Billing and in Femina, Elle and Marie Claire, and has been nominated as one of Femina's “Awesome Women of the Year”.
Kelly returned to live in South Africa two and a half years ago, and ever since has felt that she is finally “home”. She has set up her handbag business in Johannesburg and sells to upmarket fashion and lifestyle stores nationwide as well as to private Game Lodges.
