Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela, said that as regards the textile sector India-China comparison will not stand in view of the quality control maintained by India regardless the price parity influence by China He recalled the audience the demand for 'Made in India' brand in the international market, across the globe. Shri Vaghela also said that it was because of the government's fiscal policies, the textile sector could emerge as the sun-rise sector from the sun-set sector.
Dr. C. Rangarajan, who also spoke on the occasion, urged the need by the textile industry for modernisation, fabric processing, upscaling, and reviving the textile machinery industry and skills upgradation. He also said that both the industry and government need to put them together to position India strongly in the highly competitive post ATC (Agreement on Textiles and Clothings) global environment by addressing the structural weaknesses in India's textile and clothing industry.
The recent appreciation of the rupee also presents an opportunity to modernised the textile industry quickly as it has reduced the cost of imported capital goods, he added. He also stressed the need for wooing the major textile machine manufacturers in the world for joint ventures or for setting up large capacities in India with an objective to modernise India's textile machinery industry. He hoped that this summit would go a long way towards drafting an optimal strategy for the future.
