In his brief address on the occasion, Shri Oscar Fernandes said that a High Powered Committee under the Chairmanship of Labour Secretary had already been constituted to resolve the labour problems concerning textile sector. He also assured that the issues will be resolved amicably by following the principles of tripartite mechanism.
Highlighting the problems faced by the weavers in the State of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Jagdish Narayan Rai sought the help of the Commerce & Textile Ministries to look into the same and come out with some solutions after making an indepth study of their problems.
In his welcome address the Textiles Secretary, Shri A.K. Singh, highlighted the structural problems relating to the textile sector and stressed the need for resolving these with the concerted efforts of the industry and the government. He called for an introspection to exploit the challenges in the international and domestic market and felt an urgent need for preparing a holistic approach after thorough deliberations in the summit.
S/Shri P.D. Patodia, Dy. Chairman, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, S.P. Oswal, Chairman, Vardhman Spinnning & General Mills Limited, Mukund Chaudhary, Spentex Industries Limited and B.K. Goenka, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Welspun India Limited also spoke on the occasion.
