Chinese and US negotiators will meet in Shanghai on July 30-31 for the first time since Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump agreed in June to resume trade talks. The earlier talks in China took place in Beijing. The meeting is likely to implement the consensus reached between both at the G20 Summit last month, commerce ministry spokesman Gao Feng said.

US treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin and trade representative Robert Lighthizer will meet with vice premier Liu He to continue negotiations aimed at improving the bilateral trade relationship, the White House said in a statement.

The negotiations will mainly cover issues that have not yet been resolved, for example, whether the United States will lift tariffs on Chinese products and remove Chinese companies from a blacklist, a Chinese official media report quoted Ni Yueju, researcher at the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, as saying.

The two sides may also discuss whether China will resume its purchase of US agricultural products, Ni added. (DS)
