The designated term ‘acrylic’ has been changed to ‘Modacrylic’ for a mass ratio of acrylonitrile of 85 per cent or less. This was previously designated under ‘Others’ in the regulation. Therefore, from now on, polyacrylonitrile synthetic fibre with a mass ratio of acrylonitrile of 85 per cent or more is classified as ‘acrylic’, and others are classified as ‘Modacrylic’, SGS said in a press release.
The revision was approved and became effective on January 1, 2022, and a grace period will be provided until December 31, 2022. For inventories that are already in circulation in markets, it is not necessary to collect the products and change the label. Products containing the specified fibre pending distribution must be labeled with the new term on or after January 1, 2023.
