AWI predicts growing demand for wool in China

Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has predicted that the demand for all microns of wool would continue to grow in China.

Traditionally, buyers from China purchased 21 micron wool and broader. But, the AWI expects continued growth in the demand for wool of superfine and ultrafine microns in China, owing to better appreciation for finer wool and an increase in consumption of luxury goods.

Among all categories of Australian wool, the increase in demand is highest in China for the premium ultrafine Merino wool that is used in making luxury suits, according to the AWI.

The organization has forecasted that the demand for premium womenswear would rise enormously in near future.

AWI is currently investing in research, product development and marketing activities to generate greater demand for its wool in China. It is also encouraging Chinese companies to become more competitive by making value-addition to their products.
