Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals is operating its Iwakuni based purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant reduced capacity.

The plant is operating at 80 percent of its operating capacity due to poor PTA margin, a company official told fibre2fashion.

The current PTA market is not good and it is likely to improve after mid-October 2013, the official added.

At present, the demand for PTA from the Chinese main market is moderate, according to the official.

The Iwakuni plant has an annual capacity to produce 400,000 metric tons of PTA.

PTA is a basic raw material used in the polyester industry to produce industrial and textile fibres.
