The Leather business unit of the chemical company LANXESS will be combining its marketing and sales activities for leather chemicals in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) into one regional center. Up to now there have been two separate centers – one for northern Europe in Leverkusen, and one for southern Europe in Milan.
Michael Thamm has been appointed new regional head of Marketing & Sales EMEA and will be transferring to the LANXESS site in Milan on July 1. “We have to optimize our efficiency if we want to remain competitive, and that means streamlining structures,” explains Thamm. “By merging the two regional centers we will be better placed in future to respond quickly and specifically to customers' needs.”
All orders for leather chemicals in the EMEA region have been handled by LANXESS S.r.l. in Italy as sole partner since the beginning of the year. Drastic changes in the European market, the desire to further improve efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility, and not least the tremendous cost pressure were the main reasons behind this streamlining of the organizational structure in Europe.
“We also want to exploit the potential in the EMEA region better than we have done in the past, and so we have adapted our structure accordingly,” says Thamm.
A new “Competence Center Italian Innovation” has also been set up with the aim of further strengthening the focus on trends, fashion and article development. It will be headed by Giuseppe Latini, who will also continue as head of the Leather business unit in Italy.
