International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) presents the First Quarter of 2006 was marked by a moderate recovery in world fabric production which was mainly the result of higher production in Asia and South America compared to the Last Quarter of 2005.

Yarn production on world level was also on the rise driven by higher output both in North and South America and despite a reduction in Asia.

With regard to yarn stocks levels hardly any changes were recorded, while fabric inventories fell worldwide and dropped considerably in North America. Yarn orders jumped in Brazil but were slightly lower in Europe, while fabric orders decreased significantly in Brazil and remained almost unchanged in Europe.

The global production of yarn increased in the First Quarter of 2006 by 2.3 percent compared to the previous one mainly due to a jump in output in North America (+14.4 percent) and South America (+8.7 percent), while Asian production was reduced by 0.8 percent.

In comparison with the First Quarter of 2005 global yarn production remained almost unchanged (+0.3 percent) with Asia expanding its production (+2.8 percent) on the one hand and Europe, North and South America experiencing reductions (-6.0 percent, -3.5 percent and -0.5 percent, respectively) on the other.

World fabric production in the First Quarter of 2006 saw a recovery from its levels in the previous Quarter (+2.4 percent). This was mainly a result of higher output levels in Asia (+4.2 percent) and to a lower degree in South America (+2.1 percent), while fabric production remained unchanged in North America and fell in Europe (-0.7 percent).
