An agreement was signed on June 8 at the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) lounge at the Fashion Rio between the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and ABIT. The partnership marks the start up of the Sectorial Development Plan (PDS) for the textile industry elaborated jointly by both entities.

The first project to be executed will be the Self-Regulation, Standardization and Certification of Professional Clothing with a joint investment of R$ 370 thousand. Altogether, the PDS foresees investments of R$ 1 million.

The initial project aims to revise, update and adapt technical norms as well as encourage their application on product quality, manufacturing process, and social and environmental responsibility for the professional clothing segment in Brazil. The idea is to define criteria for the voluntary certification of products, aimed at the concession of a quality seal or conformity seal for the segment.

The project will generate technical parameters for the self-regulation of this market, ensuring greater product quality. Type of fabric, modeling, reinforced finishing, and other parameters shall be defined according to the activity being exercised and the region of the country.

ABDI president, Alessandro Teixeira, believes standardization and certification are fundamental for the sector. “This project will reduce existing heterogeneity in the professional clothing segment in Brazil, thus promoting increased competitiveness in the companies,” he said.
