RadiciFibres Fashion&Interiors—a business unit of the chemical and textile multinational RadiciGroup—offers technologically-advanced solutions and innovative products meeting the needs of lingerie and sportswear manufacturers, including the most demanding brand names in the world.
“Radilon Plus PA 66 Taslan dtex 190F136 UV PROTECTION” is the major RadiciFibres innovation to be presented at Interfilière Lyon 2006. Fabrics made with this taslan yarn provide effective protection to the skin against ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
The UV Protection Factor (UPF) of a fabric, which is determined by an internationally recognized protocol, provides an objective rating of the fabric's protection against UV radiation. In 2002 the European Union enacted legislation on UV protective clothing (Standard EN 13758-1).
Before this standard was approved, each fabric and sunscreen manufacturer was free to adopt a ratings system of its own, which was often incompatible with the ratings adopted by other producers. This lack of uniformity only confused consumers.
Now, standard EN 13758-1 defines a uniform UV protection factor related to the time a person can spend in the sun without the danger of sunburn.
For example, UPF 50 clothing allows a person to stay in the sun 50 times longer than with unprotected skin with no danger of sunburn on protected parts of the body. The EU standard defines a "UV protective fabric” as one having a UPF greater than 40. (However, the Australian standard defines a "UV protective fabric" as one having a UPF greater than 50.)
