Knitting machines were largely requested (35 percent of the Italian sales in China in the first three months of 2006), followed by spinning machines (31 percent) and weaving machines (21 percent).

300 Italian companies (with 22,000 employees) that in 2005 produced machinery for a value of Euro 2,500 million, pay the highest attention to the requests of the textile industry to propose new solutions of innovation, productivity, safety with the utmost satisfaction of their clients.

The quality of the Italian textile technology is testified by the high number of Countries where the Italian machinery are sold: about 130. In 2005 exports represented 79 percent of total sales. Asia (with a share of 42 percent) is the main destination for Italian sector exports, followed by Europe (40 percent), Latin America (7 percent) and North America (6 percent).

The participation of Italian textile machinery manufacturers at CINTE 2006 has been coordinated by ACIMIT and ICE (Italian Trade Commission), through its office in Shanghai and its head office in Rome.

ACIMIT includes on-line a section addressed to technical textiles and to nonwovens, in which visitors can find the list of member companies operating in this sector.

In 2006, the promotional initiatives planned in co-operation with the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) are focused on two markets of primary importance: USA and China.

In the United States, a technological workshop at the North Carolina State University took place in May, while in China ACIMIT will coordinate through a so-called “Punto Italia” (Italy's Meeting Point) the participation of some textile machinery companies in the CINTE Shanghai fair, an event especially dedicated to technical textiles.
