In a three day sale in Sydney and a two day sale in Melbourne, the AWEX EMI remained the same as last week's end on Tuesday, increased by 2¢ on Wednesday and again by 3¢ on Thursday. The Western Indicator, in a two day sale, increased by 2¢ on Wednesday and by 6¢ on Thursday.
The market got away to a good start on Tuesday with gains across the Merino fleece types in Sydney on Tuesday and maintained that momentum over the rest of the week.
This was particularly so in the South, where the 17.0 to 18.5 micron indicators rose by 13¢ to 26¢ on Thursday.
Skirtings were in strong demand all week, with the exception of a reported slight easing on Thursday in the West.
Fine and medium crossbreds were slightly stronger than last week, while coarse crossbreds were marginally weaker in the North and unchanged in the South.
Oddments closed on a strong note on Thursday after generally being in line with last week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Buyers for China, and the topmakers were dominant.
Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 62,219 bales are currently rostered for sale.
The current forecasts over the next four weeks are up over last week's prediction and show likely offerings of between 57,000 and 62,000 bales over the period.
