ACGRA Executive Officer, Greg Kauter, said key operational tasks included an active advisory role to the CRDC and Cotton CRC; responsibility for industry resistance management strategies for insecticides and transgenic crops; and drafting the cotton industry Biosecurity Plan, to be formally launched in November.

Research in the cotton industry is funded by a compulsory levy on cotton growers of $2.25 per bale, matched by the Federal Government to a maximum of 0.5 % of the gross value of production.

Membership of ACGRA is based on organisations (not individuals), including regional Cotton Grower Associations, ginning and cotton seed organisations.

Hamish Millar said ACGRA's role is to embrace, facilitate, coordinate and encourage change, rather than fear it, which it achieves via regular communication, consultation, interaction and networking within and between government and industry groups.

“ACGRA's strength is in its leadership, facilitation and participation in workshops, committees, task forces, forums, meetings and conferences, and the partnerships and agreements associated with its overall functions, including best management practices, environmental sustainability and new technologies.”
