In the second quarter of 2006 there were 83 thousand more jobs of employees than in the second quarter of 2005. This is a slightly bigger increase than in the first quarter of 2006.
The labour costs per year (fte) in the second quarter were up by 0.6 percent on the previous year. Lower social security contributions payable by the employers keep the rise of the labour costs in check, according to the latest figures by Statistics Netherlands.
More employment in business services and care
By far the greatest increase in the number of jobs took place in business services.
The economic recovery creates extra jobs, which many employers are filling with temp workers for the time being.
But other business services, besides temp agencies, are also employing more people, such accountants offices, lawyer, engineer and ICT companies.
Care remains one of the main job generators, with 25 thousand extra jobs.
There was also an increase in jobs in trade, hotels and restaurants. Jobs are still disappearing in the manufacturing industry, construction, in transport and in government.
Quarter-on-quarter job increase of 23 thousand
A number of jobs have obvious seasonal patterns. Once the figures are adjusted for this, the numbers of jobs of employers were up by 23 thousand in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2006.
The increase is not as large as in the first quarter, but larger than in the five preceding quarters.
