The highlight of the week was the offering of some superior ultrafine wool in both the North and the South. A top price of 65,500¢ was achieved in the North.

Buyers for China and the topmakers led the purchase tally with buyers for Italy dominant on the superior ultrafine and superfine wools.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week when 65,641 bales (including 5,000 bales from New Zealand) are currently rostered for sale. The current forecasts over the following three weeks show likely offerings of 62,000 to 66,000 bales, all well above the corresponding weeks last year.

The Wool Production Forecasting Committee revised its forecast for 2006/07 downwards to 434 mkg during the week, a 5.9 percent year-on-year fall. AWTA sampling data to the end of September is unchanged from last year and auction offerings are currently 2.9 percent up. However, these figures are influenced by the lack of rain and the consequent earlier shearings.

In South African sales this week, their market was quoted as up by 1.3 percent on a 4.3 percent lower Rand.
