Winners of 2006 SDC Colour design competition announced

The work of the three other finalists in this category, Lucy Brennan (University College Falmouth), Louise Townsend (Chelsea College of Art and Design) and Amy van Luijk (Massey University, New Zealand), were all highly commended by the judges.
The winner of the first prize in the postgraduate section, Alice Palmer of the Royal College of Art, also received a cheque for £1000 and will be continuing on at the college to complete her Masters degree.
The runner-up, Bernadette McCabe (Nottingham Trent University), has now graduated and is currently working as a freelance designer in the West of Ireland.
The prizes in the graphic design category in the 2006 Colour in Design competition were awarded by John Dakin of VeriVide, sponsors of the Gala Awards Dinner and keen supporters of young design talent, regularly contributing to the SDC Day of Colour Roadshow as it tours SDC Patron Colleges throughout the UK.
The finalists' designs in this category were all concerned with product packaging, and the first prize went to Sydney Nakashima (Louisiana State University, USA) for her unique colour combinations and striking designs for a range of flower seed packets. Sydney was presented with a cheque for £1000 and on her return to the States will continue with her degree and hopes to graduate in May 2008.
The second prize, a cheque for £300, was awarded to Natalie Ashcroft, and the third prize went to Alexandra Tibbenham, who received acheque for £200; the designs of Danielle Morgan were highly commended by the judges. All three runners-up have recently graduated from Manchester University.
