There is tremendous potential for Indian Industry to contribute to the modernisation of future Infantry soldiers, said Chief of the Army staff, General JJ Singh PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC at the first ever Infantry-Industry seminar, "Army- Industry Partnership Meet 2006: F- INSAS" organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday.
The Future Infanty Soldier as a System (F-INSAS) aims to utilise advanced technologies to enhance capabilities of an individual soldier.
The F-INSAS concept is based on the lessons gained from conflicts worldwide and intends to make the Indian soldier a `self-contained fighting machine'.
The Army Chief inaugurated an exhibition of products related to Project F-INSAS. Major national and international companies displayed their products.
There is tremendous scope for close interface between the CII, international players in the field, DRDO and defence production agencies, said the Army Chief.
"The Infantry soldier will remain the backbone of our nation's fighting force and therefore, need to be made more potent and formidable," the Army chief said.
The Indian Industry has excelled in the field of engineering, automobiles, textiles, polymer and other materials, automation, electronics and telecommunication, and can contribute in the modernization of Infantry battalions, he stated.
The Army Chief said that there is a requirement to enhance the capabilities of infantry soldiers in terms of lethality, mobility, survivability, sustainability, situational awareness and battle command to make them better multi-mission, multi-role war fighters.
