Australian woolgrowers will have their chance to bring their case against PETA and Animal Liberation for alleged illegal activity aimed at damaging the wool industry, with the setting of a trial date for later next year.

The Federal Court of Australia set 2 October as the first day for the hearing brought by Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) against the animal rights group, its President Ingrid Newkirk, three PETA employees (Cem Aiken, Dan Matthews and Matt Rice) and Animal Liberation and two of its operatives, Sally Dingle-Wall and Angie Stephenson.

Deputy CEO of AWI, Les Targ, welcomed the decision.

“We are looking forward to our day in court on behalf of Australian woolgrowers."

“We are determined to make PETA, Animal Liberation and the other co-respondents accountable for their campaign of misinformation and intimidation targeting international and local retailers and to prevent them from undertaking further illegal activity aimed at damaging the livelihoods and reputation of Australian woolgrowers."
