Bayer CropScience sees development of market in Poland

Building on a strong business in the year 2004, Bayer CropScience is aiming to further expand its position as one of the world´s leading innovative crop science companies.
Speaking at a press conference in Warsaw, Prof. Dr. Friedrich Berschauer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience, said that between 2001 and 2004, sales in the 10 new EU member states have more than tripled from about 50 to EUR 160 million.
“They are optimistic that the further growth perspectives for Bayer CropScience are very positive in the 10 new EU member states.” The modernization of Poland's agriculture would play a key role in this regard, Berschauer said.
In the first quarter 2005, Europe continued to be the largest region for Bayer CropScience with sales of EUR 775 million. Out of this, about EUR 73 million were accounted for by the 10 new EU member states. In the first quarter of 2005 sales there grew an extraordinary 22 % versus the first quarter 2004.
For Bayer CropScience the country group comprising Poland and the Baltics is the largest individual market among the new EU member states. As Berschauer sees it further development of the agricultural market in Poland and the other new EU member countries is an opportunity for the farmers and also for the industry.
