Despite the drought, Narrabri will this year play host to the Cotton Collective, a week of events which will bring together industry and stakeholders to discuss – and celebrate – Australia's cotton industry.

Running from Monday 6 to Friday 10 August, highlights include the Cotton Industry Forum, The 2007 Australian Cotton Industry Awards and various other science, research and innovation events.

Adam Kay, CEO of Cotton Australia, believes the week of cotton-focused events is a must for anyone who has an interest in cotton and agriculture and wants to learn more about the direction of one of Australia's most important crops.

“The Cotton Industry Forum is being held on the afternoon of Tuesday 7 August, and is a great opportunity for growers – and anyone else - to participate in discussions on key issues shaping the future of the cotton industry."

"The forum will involve Cotton Grower Associations from across NSW and Queensland and will look at topics like water, drought and Best Management Practices.”

Following the Industry Forum, the 2007 Australian Cotton Industry Awards Dinner will celebrate excellence across the industry, with awards being presented in the following categories:
• Elders Young Achiever of the Year
• CSD ACGRA Researcher of the Year
• Monsanto Grower of the Year
• AgriRisk Innovative Grower of the Year
• Twynam Service to Industry Award

Other events across the week include the Cotton Consultants Australia Seminar and the Cotton Cooperative Research Centre Science Forum.

“The Science Forum will be incredibly interesting for anyone who wants to know about innovative and current industry research. With water such a big issue right now, there have been many ground breaking studies done, and strides ahead in irrigation and varieties.” Mr Kay said.

The Cotton Australia AGM is also being held on Tuesday 7 August, with an open invitation to all growers and industry personnel to attend.
