Industrial new orders up by 4.4% in euro area

The euro area (EA13) industrial new orders index increased by 4.4% in June 2007 compared with May 2007. The index rose by 1.5% in May and fell by 0.3% in April. EU27 new orders gained 4.9% in June 2007, after an increase of 3.0% in May and a decrease of 1.3% in April. Excluding ships, railway and aerospace equipment industrial new orders increased by 1.4% in the euro area and by 1.2% in the EU27 in June 2007.

In June 2007 compared with June 2006, industrial new orders increased by 13.8% in the euro area and by 14.0% in the EU27. Total industry excluding ships, railway and aerospace equipment grew by 7.0% in the euro area and by 7.6% in the EU27.

Monthly changes:
In June 2007 compared with May 2007, new orders for transport equipment increased by 15.7% in the euro area and by 15.4% in the EU27. Manufacturing of textiles and textile products rose by 3.0% and 2.8% respectively. Chemicals and chemical products gained 2.5% in the euro area and 2.9% in the EU27.

Manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products grew by 1.4% and 1.0% respectively. Machinery and equipment fell by 0.1% in the euro area, but rose by 0.3% in the EU27. New orders for electrical and electronic equipment declined by 1.6% and 2.7% respectively.

In June 2007, among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in eleven Member States and fell in eight. The highest increases were recorded in Latvia (+6.0%), Ireland (+5.8%) and Germany (+5.5%), and the largest decreases in Bulgaria (-12.8%), Portugal (-7.6%) and Hungary (-6.8%).
