It's been a busy time for Australian Merino wool, being showcased to designers, editors and buyers from Italy to China.

Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) presented the 'Australian beach' at a press day in Milan recently, setting up deck chairs adorned with models sporting the latest in beautiful and elegant swim and beachwear made from fine Australian Merino wool.

Everybody was amazed at the fine quality of the fabric and the superb design. The softness, lightness and comfort of the costumes were a talking point. Luca Lanzoni, editor of Elle magazine, was amazed, remarking that his previous notion of wool was “something impossible to wear on bare skin.”

In Shanghai, China, AWI also recently took part in the prestigious 2007 Fabrics China New Product Release. One of the highlights in the Chinese textile industry calendar, the conference allows the industry to inform buyers and designers of the latest trends and innovations in fabric.

The event provided AWI the opportunity to present partner product samples, such as the Merino Retro with the Sunshine Group, Merino Fresco with Shandong Ruyi and Merino La mode with the Shanghai Textile Centre.

In addition, AWI is set to launch over 15 Australian Merino wool innovations at Spin expo on the 5th-7th of September.

Organised by independent textile specialists, the biannual event saw almost 8,000 visitors in March last year.
