Heavy metals generally are highly toxic and thus have a high environmental impact. The PRTR Law regulates the use of heavy metals that contain elements or chemical compounds which affect human health or ecological systems.
Heavy metals such as antimony are contained in many kinds of conventional polyesters, and a catalyst containing the rare metal germanium is found in polyesters for in PET bottles or food-wrapping films.
Titanium, the main component of PURITY's polymerization catalyst, is the seventh most common element on earth. Utilized in applications including dentistry and cosmetics, titanium is safe for human use and has a low environmental impact.
It does not produce hazardous gas when burned, and the PRTR Law does not regulate this element. Titanium also offers advantages in terms of stable supply and low cost.
Teijin will continue to develop environmentally friendly applications offering the benefit of "fiber to fiber" closed-loop recycling.
