AWI dismisses rumour on mulesing legislation

Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) Chairman Ian McLachlan ridiculed suggestions that anyone at AWI is pushing for legislation to ban mulesing.

“These rumours are nonsense. The role of AWI in the wool industry is to conduct research and development both on and off-farm, to drive demand for Australian Merino wool.

“Not only is it not AWI's role to lobby Government on industry issues, but it would be silly to seek legislative change to ban mulesing.

“Our job, right now, is to find effective, viable alternatives to mulesing; and we are working hard to deliver these before the end of 2010.”
