The First Deputy Chairman and CEO of Inditex, Pablo Isla, and the General Secretary of the International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers Federation (ITGLWF), Neil Kearney, have signed a framework agreement of cooperation.

The basic objective is to oversee the fulfilment of the international core labour standards which have resulted from the agreements between OIT and the United Nations, as well as the OECD's directives.

The agreement, based on the important international projection of both organizations, emphasizes the essential role the free trade union and the collective negotiation must have worldwide.

In this case, both organizations collaborate directly from now on to oversee the completion of the Code of Conduct of Manufacturers in Inditex. The agreement is the first of its kind in confronting these demands at every stage of production.

ITGLWF is the international trade association that defends worker's rights and runs educational and development programmes to assist unions. ITGLWF brings together 217 affiliated organisations in 110 countries, with more than 10 millions workers.

Inditex believes that the policy of Corporate Social Responsibility should include a commitment to improve the development of labour and social rights as well as living conditions.

Inditex regards the cooperation with an international trade federation, such as the ITGLWF, to be vital to the fulfilment of the Inditex Code of Conduct for Manufacturers and External Workshops, which has been in force since February 2001.
