Australian Wool Services (AWS) is handing over control of its key assets, including the Woolmark brand, to Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) today at Wool House, Melbourne.

Ian McLachlan, Chairman of AWI said this is an important step for the future of the Australian wool industry.

“The integration of AWI and The Woolmark Company has now been completed and AWI has now obtained management control of AWS assets including the Woolmark brand. Going forward we will now have one professional and well resourced company working for the future Australian woolgrowers,” said Mr McLachlan.

“AWI has been given a clear mandate by Australian wool industry associations and the Federal Government to reinvigorate the Woolmark brand. We have one chance to get this right.

“AWI has the right leadership with the recent appointment of Chief Executive Officer Craig Welsh, who has extensive experience in retail and marketing; and expertise and commitment from Australian and international staff to drive our industry forward.”

Craig Welsh, Chief Executive Officer of AWI said this is a unique business opportunity where AWI can now build and add value to global business partners with an integrated package of innovation and marketing services for Australian Merino wool.

“The Australian wool industry now has an extensive network of professional operators in the countries and business segments that we working with. This network will give us greater presence in front of the businesses that influence the apparel markets that use our natural fibre,” said Mr Welsh.
