METRO Cash & Carry opened its 600th wholesale store worldwide in the Siberian town of Novosibirsk and therewith underlined its leading position as international operator in self-service wholesale.
At the same time, the new location is also the 36th wholesale store in Russia and marks an important step in the company's rapid expansion in this country.
”We are pleased and proud to open our 600th store in Novosibirsk“, said Thomas M. Hübner, CEO of METRO Cash & Carry International GmbH. “With this move, we are further driving our international expansion while at the same time demonstrating our competence in logistics.
With locations in 28 countries throughout Europe, Africa and Asia we are already now the most international company in this line of business. And in just a few days time we will open our first wholesale store in Lahore, Pakistan.“
International expansion is one of the pillars of METRO Cash & Carry, which opened its first wholesale store more than 40 years ago in the German city Mühlheim an der Ruhr.
A pioneering spirit and entrepreneurial courage always ranked among the key virtues of METRO Cash & Carry and make it the food trader with the broadest international base.
In many countries such as China, Russia, India or Pakistan, the Duesseldorf-based company was the first international player to start operations. METRO Cash & Carry with its more than 100,000 employees caters to over 20 million commercial customers on three continents.
