German SMEs to set up common standards for Indian SMEs

German 'Small & Medium Enterprises' (SMEs) will set up common standards for Indian SMEs and will increase their presence in India, said Dr Angela Merkel, Chancellor, Federal Republic of Germany and President of the European Council at a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA), here on Tuesday.
Germany is looking forward to broadening its relationship with India , and infrastructure, military cooperation and development of financial institutes are the key areas of interest for investment, said the Chancellor.
Germany has enormous experience and local knowledge of development cooperation, said Dr Merkel. Scientific research is required for further development of India and Germany and both the countries should identify younger talent to meet the needs, she added.
Renewable and clean energy technology is a key area of concern for the European Union (EU) and Germany is willing to assist India with technology and investment to jointly foster clean energy solutions.
The Chancellor further proposed that vocational training for Indian manpower can be taken up by the German companies who are planning to set up their business in India.
Dr Merkel said that India has a constructive role to play in the Doha Round and Germany is willing to cooperate with India for successful completion of the Doha Round and balance the issues related to agricultural subsidies, services and intellectual property rights.
