Geoff Lindon has joined Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), to head up a new program called Sheep Technologies.
Announced as part of the Company's continual realignment of resources to improve the development and delivery of products and services to woolgrower shareholders and customers; the program will include alternatives to mulesing, Sheep Genetics (SG), and all other forms of genetic benchmarking, including Merino Sire Evaluation.
AWI Chief Executive Officer, Craig Welsh, welcomed Mr Lindon to the Company.
“With significant commercial experience and knowledge of the wool production environment, Geoff Lindon will be a valuable member of the AWI team,” said Mr Welsh.
“Mr Lindon's background as the Livestock Operations Manager with the Twynam Agricultural Group means he is also ideally placed to help AWI meet the strategic challenge it faces in providing support to the industry in its decision to phase out conventional mulesing by 2010.
“With three alternatives to mulesing currently being investigated, these programs will need to continue on the fast track for delivery by the end of 2010.
“The breech and tail clips are being trialled on tens of thousands of lambs across Australia this season, with a parallel program that is developing biodegradable clips in the future.
“With Mr Lindon's experience and success working with seed stock and commercial flocks and herds over the last 25 years, he is well versed in the requirements and benefits of achieving even higher rates of genetic gain for the whole Merino industry.”
