Inflation rates go up in February

The inflation rates based on CPI, SPI and WPI for the period of three years and three months with respect to the corresponding period/month are given.

July-February over Corresponding Period of Last Year:
The inflation rates based on CPI, SPI and WPI for the year 2007-08 increased by 8.90%, 12.15% and 11.68% respectively over the corresponding period of 2006-07. It increased by 8.04%, 11.69% and 7.14% respectively in 2006-07 over the corresponding period of 2005-06.

In 2005-06, the rate of inflation increased by 8.42%, 6.63% and 10.83 % respectively over the same period of 2004-05. An analysis of data for last three years for the same period indicates that CPI, SPI & WPI were higher as compared to last two years.

February over Corresponding Month of Previous Year:
The inflation rates based on CPI, SPI & WPI in February, 2008 increased by 11.25%, 14.63% and 16.36% over February, 2007 respectively.

CPI, SPI and WPI in February 2007 increased by 7.39%, 10.60% and 5.09% respectively over February, 2006 and in February, 2006 the CPI, SPI and WPI increased by 8.05%, 7.01% and 9.94% respectively over February, 2005. An analysis of data for three years for the same period indicates that CPI, SPI & WPI in February, 2008 were higher as compared to February, 2006 & 2007.

February over Previous Month:
The inflation rates based on CPI & WPI in February, 2008 increased by 0.49%, 1.24% but SPI decreased by 1.33% over January, 2008 respectively. During February, 2007, CPI, SPI & WPI increased by 1.04%, 0.09% and 0.51% over January, 2007 respectively. However, CPI, SPI & WPI in February, 2006 increased by 0.33%, 1.46% and 0.77% over January, 2006 respectively.
