Wool market finishes 8.5% lower

Prices for Merino skirtings and for crossbred wools also fell sharply, while oddments were less affected with the AWEX average Merino Cardings MPG being down by 9¢ (2.0%).

Buyers for China were dominant with support from buyers for India.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 56,271 bales are currently rostered for sale. Present estimates for the following two sales are 54,300 and 52,600 bales, respectively. A decrease of 4.6% over the three sale period when compared with last year.

The New Zealand Merino Company will also offer 3,150 bales in Melbourne next week.

In South African sales, where 10,041 bales were on offer, the Cape Wools Indicator was down by 4.2% since last week against a 19.2% depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar and a 12.6% depreciation against the Euro.
