Nation's cotton seed supplier Cotton Seed Distributors Ltd (CSD) informed that Mungindi schools got benefits from cotton sales.
Four schools in the Mungindi region will share almost $20,000 raised from cotton industry donations designed to plough benefits back into the local community.
The four schools sharing the $19,446.13 cheque are the Mungindi Central School, Mungindi Central Pre School, Mungindi Community Pre School, and St Joseph's Primary School.
Key contributors included Brett Corish (Corish Farms), Jen Johnston (Twynam Ginning), Matt Leeson (Independent Commodity Management), David Kelly (Cotton Seed Distributors), Bec Diprose (Monsanto), Jim O'Connor and Tony Taylor (Border Rivers Consulting), and Harvey McKillop (Northern Rivers Aviation).
The program was made possible through the initiative of Brett Corish of 'Tundunna', who provided the 12-acre field and did all the 'hard work': watering, fertilizing, planting, picking and harnessing local industry support.
Cotton Seed Distributors provided the seed (Sicot 71BR a new elite line); Monsanto waived fees for the Bollgard II and Roundup Ready technology; Border Rivers Consulting provided free agronomic advice; Northern Rivers Aviation provided aerial spraying; Twynam Ginning ginned the module free of charge; and Independent Commodity Management at Moree handled marketing; with Tim Storck from Reinhart a major buyer.
Irene Harpham, Principal of Mungindi Central School (also representing Mungindi Central Pre School), said that past donations had been used to build new classrooms, but this year would go towards replacing football goal posts and improving the playground for students.
