With the dismantling of quotas in January 2005, India has emerged as a leading supplier of textiles and apparels to world markets, which includes garments, fabrics, made-ups and yarns.

The European Union is one of the most important markets for Indian textile exporters.

The textile and clothing industry is one of the pillars of the EU economy and is a highly dynamic growth sector.

However, the industry also represents one of the longest and most complicated industrial chains in the manufacturing industry and organisations have not yet fully exploited the potential benefits of internationally networked cooperation.

The building of strategic partnerships relying on mutual benefit and trust is the key to fostering future investment and innovation leading to an increase in competitiveness for organisations in a globalised world-economy.

It is here where the project will dedicate its resources, namely to support enterprises in the countries and regions as represented in the project to exploit new opportunities by developing sustainable business co-operation and responding to a newly emerging market environment e.g. lapsing of the quotas and the enlargement of the EU.

India's importance as an export market and location for investment is increasing.

Stable economic growth, the abolition of numerous regulations and a continuously growing section of consumers with high disposable incomes, has all raised the prospects for potential sales.
