National Statistical Office of Mongolia reported that in the first quarter of 2006, total revenue and grants of General Government budget amounted to 214.4 billion togrogs and total expenditure and net lending 179.1 billion togrogs. The General government budget overall balance was a surplus 35.3 billion togrogs.
Current revenue of General Government amounted to 210.7 billion togrogs and current expenditure 165.6 billion togrogs. The budget current balance was a surplus 45.1 billion togrogs.
Compared with the same period of previous year, tax revenue increased by 46.7 percent, taxes on foreign trade increased by 32.4 percent, value added tax increased by 31.2 percent and excise tax increased by 37.8 percent.
In March of 2006, the consumer price index increased by 43.0 percent compared with the end of 2000 (base period), by 5.8 percent from the corresponding period of previous year, by 2.5 percent from the end of previous year and decreased by 0.4 percent compared with previous month.
As a result of these decreases overall index fell by 0.4 percent. Prices of clothing and footwear group remained stable and prices of other groups increased by 0.6-1.6 percent.
External trade - For the first quarter of 2006, total external trade turnover equaled 462.8 million US dollars, of which exports 229.8 million US dollars and imports 233.0 million US dollars.
Total external trade balance turned a deficit of 3.2 million US dollars. As compared with the same period of the previous year, total external trade turnover increased by 21.8 percent, imports by 36.5 percent and exports by 10.2 percent respectively.
As compared with the same period of the previous year, the exports of raw and processed hides, skins, fur and articles thereof exports by 7.1 million US dollars, natural or cultured pearls, precious metal, jewellery by 5.7 million US dollars and textiles and textile articles by 6.6 million US dollars.
