ACA & AproCA issues call to save African cotton industry

The 23rd Africa-France summit themed on "The vitality, creativity and aspirations of African Youth", organised by the African Cotton Association (ACA) and the African Cotton Producers Association (AproCA) appealed other stakeholders to join the move to save the industry.

This two-day summit was held at Bamako, Mali, in presence of about 50 African countries and France, represented by about 20 Heads of State, Vice-Presidents, Prime Ministers or Ministers.

Seeking a fair trade, the two associations sought African Governments' support to unitedly fight at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Associations seeks competitive and viable textile industry, transform African cotton production while repeating their vow to make the industry sustainable for the sake of millions of producers, employees in the field, and among partners.

They also favoured attempts to continue the development of African cotton quality, thus an assurance of competitiveness be extended.

ACA and AproCA also appealed Jacques Chirac, the President of France, to clarify his country's stance on the cotton debate.
