Senate Committee keen to provide winning strategies for textile industry

In order to render competitive edge and develop the domestic textile industry in the WTO ruled Free Trade Era, the Senate Standing Committee on Textile Industry has stressed on the need to evolve a winning textile strategy.

The Committee met in the Parliament House headed by Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan during a review meeting of the performance of the Ministry of Textile Industry.

Stakeholders have forwarded their feedback on textile policy, informed Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Textile Industry and the suggestions and comments would value add in general towards improvement in growing, ginning, spinning, weavings, dyeing, finishing processes and garment production etc.

Acknowledging the importance of the textile industry, the Ministry is implementing e-government strategy together with e-government directorate. It has also sanctioned a five-year plan to computerize the entire data, Rizvi added.

All this would enable the industry to communicate with Chambers of Commerce and Industries of foreign countries and promote and subsequently market their products there.
