Textiles ministry schemes to improve textile sector

The Minister of State for Textiles, Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan, informed the Rajya Sabha that the Government has initiated the following schemes for the benefit of textile sector:

1. Handloom Sector:
In the Handloom Sector, the following schemes have been introduced:

i) Integrated Handloom cluster Development Scheme:
The Scheme has been introduced under which it is proposed to develop 20 handloom clusters throughout the country, in an inclusive, holistic, sustainable and self reliant manner.

The handloom clusters to be developed are Chirala, Madhavarm, Bijoinagar, Bhagalpur, Surendranagar, Kullu, Gadag, Thiruvanathapuram, Chanderi/Gwalior, Imphal, Sonepur, Bargarh, Tiruvannamalai, Trichy, Kurinjipadi, Varanasi, Barabanki, Mubarakpur, Burdwan and Nadia.

ii) Health Insurance Schemes (HIS):
The Health Insurance Scheme aims at enabling the weaver community to access the best healthcare facilities in the country, and it covers the weaver, his wife and two children at a total premium of Rs.1000/-. The annual coverage/benefits per family will be Rs.15,000/- out of which OPD cover will be Rs.7500/-.

iii) Mahatma Gndhi Bunkar Bima Yojana (MGBBY):
The Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana provides insurance coverage to handloom weavers in case of natural and well as accidental death.

The annual premium under the scheme is Rs.330/-. Of this, the Government of India's share is Rs.150/-, the beneficiary's share is Rs.80/- and the share of LIC is Rs.100/- per annum. Under this scheme, the sum assured is Rs.50,000/- for natural death, and Rs.80,000/- for accidental death.
