Textile products index up, leather & fur decline in Feb

Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Use-based Index released by government for the month of February, 2006.
The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of February 2006 have been released by the Central Statistical Organisation of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The General Index stands at 227.3, which is 8.8 percent higher as compared to the level in the month of February 2005.
The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of February 2006 stand at 153.9, 242.3, and 186.0 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 0.9 percent, 9.5 percent and 9.0 percent as compared to February 2005.
The cumulative growth during April-February, 2005-06 over the corresponding period of 2004-05 in the three sectors are 0.5 percent, 9.0 percent and 5.3 percent respectively, with the overall growth rate of General Index being 8.0 percent.
In terms of industries, as many as thirteen (13) out of the seventeen (17) industry groups (as per 2- digit NIC-1987) have shown positive growth during the month of February 2006 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
The industry group 'Other Manufacturing Industries' has shown the highest growth of 20.3 percent, followed by 15.5 percent in 'Textile Products (including Wearing Apparel)'. On the other hand, the industry groups 'Leather and Leather & Fur Products' have shown a decline of 14.9 percent and 7.0 percent in 'Jute and Other Vegetable Fibre Textiles (except cotton)'.
