Seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 0.4 percent in the euro area in March 2006 compared to February 2006. Output in the EU25 gained 0.3 percent in March 2006. Production in both zones remained stable in February3 and grew by 0.2 percent in January.
In March 2006 compared to March 2005, industrial production rose by 3.8 percent in the euro area and by 3.7 percent in the EU25.
Monthly comparison In March 2006 compared to February 2006 production of intermediate goods grew by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU25. Capital goods rose by 0.1 percent in the euro area, but fell by 0.1 percent in the EU25.
Durable consumer goods declined by 0.1 percent in the euro area, but grew by 0.4 percent in the EU25. Non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.1 percent in the euro area, but increased by 0.1 percent in the EU25. Production of energy fell by 0.2 percent in the euro area, but gained 0.2 percent in the EU25.
In March 2006, and among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in sixteen Member States and fell in four.
The highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+7.4 percent), Portugal (+6.1 percent), Ireland (+5.5 percent) and Estonia (+3.0 percent), while decreases were recorded in Germany (-1.7 percent), Greece (-0.5 percent), Denmark and Italy (both -0.1 percent).
Annual comparison In March 2006 compared to March 2005, capital goods rose by 4.7 percent in the euro area and by 5.0 percent in the EU25.
