Exports remain high at RM52.63bn in Sept

The trade in September 2006: Malaysia's exports in September 2006 remained high at RM52.63 billion, the second highest monthly value recorded in 2006.

Exports increased by 10.4 percent from September 2005, and were marginally lower by 1.5 percent from the record high value of RM53.44 billion in August 2006.

Malaysia's exports have been registering double digit growth since May this year.

Imports recorded a 6.9 percent growth from a year ago, reaching a value of RM42.84 billion. Compared with August 2006, imports in September were lower by 1.2 percent.

Total trade in September 2006 continued to remain robust, reaching RM95.48 billion, an expansion of 8.8 percent from September 2005.

A trade surplus of RM9.79 billion was recorded in September 2006, making it the 107th consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997. It was the second highest monthly trade surplus for 2006.

Strong export performance was seen in the third quarter of 2006. Exports rose 9.4 percent from the second quarter to RM156.6 billion.

This was the highest quarterly export growth compared to the previous two quarters. Imports grew 6.1 percent from the second quarter to RM127.68 billion.

During the period of January-September 2006, total trade registered a value of RM795.4 billion, an increase of 11.8 percent from the corresponding period in 2005.

Exports expanded by 11.6 percent to RM436.48 billion, while imports increased by 12.2 percent to RM358.92 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus of RM77.56 billion for the first nine months, compared to RM71.2 billion in the corresponding period of last year.
